Joint Interoperability Test Command

Joint Interoperability Certification

Unified Capabilities (UC) Approved Products List (APL)
The Joint Interoperability Test Command (an organizational element of the Defense Information Systems Agency, Test & Evaluation Directorate) has responsibility for certifying joint and combined interoperability of all DOD IT and NSS. JITC facilities are strategically located at Fort Huachuca, Arizona and Indian Head, Maryland. The diverse capabilities and resources associated with each respective location allow the armed services to have access to a dynamic environment for laboratory tests and on-site field evaluations.

What is interoperability?

Interoperability is the ability of systems, units or forces to provide data, information, materiel and services to and accept the same from other systems, units or forces and to use the data, information, materiel and services so exchanged to enable them to operate effectively together. IT and NSS interoperability includes both the technical exchange of information and the end-to-end operational effectiveness of that exchanged information as required for mission accomplishment. Interoperability is more than just information exchange. It includes systems, processes, procedures, organizations, and missions over the lifecycle and must be balanced with information assurance.

What does certification involve?

The Joint Interoperability Test Command (JITC) follows the processes outlined in Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff Instruction 6212.01, Interoperability and Supportability of Information Technology and National Security Systems, to perform their joint interoperability test and certification mission. This document establishes policies and procedures for developing, coordinating, reviewing, and approving IT and NSS interoperability needs. It also establishes procedures for performing interoperability test certification using a new Net-Ready approach.

Generally, the Interoperability Test Certification process comprises four basic steps. Joint interoperability testing and evaluation can be a repetitive process as conditions change. The four basic steps are:

  • Identify (Interoperability) Requirements
  • Develop Certification Approach (Planning)
  • Perform Interoperability Evaluation
  • Report Certifications and Statuses

Below are General DataComm products on the Unified Capabilities (UC) Approved Products List (APL). The certification process is the responsibility of the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) Unified Capabilities Connection Office (UCCO).

Xedge 6000

MSPx enables Metro Ethernet Forum compliant Ethernet services on the same cost-effective and reliable platform that offers native services such as TDM, Frame Relay, IP and ATM. This convergence allows graceful, incremental migration and mediation between legacy circuits and new packet-based services. Users can access a rich variety of standards-compliant service modules and interfaces with advanced packet technology that reliably and securely satisfies user demand for quality of service.

  • Enables Metro Ethernet Forum compliant Ethernet services.
  • Offers circuit emulation services over MPLS, IP, Ethernet, VLAN or ATM.
  • Supports pseudowire emulation (PWE) of legacy TDM, IP, and ATM as well as Ethernet services.
  • QoS for prioritization of services and bandwidth management.
  • Gigabit routing with OSPF, BGP, L2TP, UDP.
  • Simplified network management, Provisioning Manager (SPM), an application of GDCs ProSphere NMS.

At the heart of the MSPx platform is the Packet Cell Switch (PCx), Packet Circuit Emulation (PCE), and other modules facilitating multiservice convergence. PCx enables Metro Ethernet Forum compliant E-Line services over an MPLS, Ethernet, IP, VLAN, MLPS or ATM backbone. It also supports transport of legacy TDM, ATM,IP, VLAN and Ethernet service packets using pseudowires. A variety plug-in interfaces also support diverse services.

Xedge PCx

GDC's Xedge Packet Circuit Emulation (PCe) is designed for networks transitioning to a packet-based infrastructure while maintaining real-time legacy TDM applications and services. For mobile networks, satellite communications, and mission critical, fixed wide area networks, Xedge PCe minimizes OPEX and CAPEX by leveraging capabilities in products that converge Ethernet based services with time critical TDM services across a packet switched wide area network (WAN). The PCes powerful timing recovery allows delay-sensitive, bit-transparent TDM data to be transported efficiently through a packet core.

Xedge

The bottom line is GDC's strategic product vision is to provide standards-based technology that yields maximum return on investment over the life cycle of ownership. Using emerging technologies such as Pseudowires, GDC can deliver true convergence of multiple services on the WAN.

Introduction

General DataComm's SpectraComm family of modems with optional AES Encryption, CSU/DSUs, static and dynamic routers, and Ethernet switches support a wide range of Carrier, Enterprise and Government applications. These include IP Services, T3 broadband services, T1/FT1 (Fractional T1) wideband services, 2.4 kbps - 64 kbps DDS/GDS (Digital Data Service/ Generic Data Service) narrowband services, and up to 33.6 kbps switched or private line analog services.

The flexible, expandable design of the SpectraComm system accommodates network growth, expanding from a single card enclosure to a robust 16 slot shelf system. This modularity maximizes the use of network facilities and helps to reduce network management complexity.

NEBS Compliance

A requirement for Central Office equipment located in North American Public Switched Network centers, the rigorous NEBS requirements are a universal measure of network product excellence for carriers. NEBS includes criteria for operational continuity, protection of property, and personnel safety.

NEBS is the major test of quality and safety that is required for any organization supplying or purchasing network equipment for public network high density applications. Specifically, the NEBS criteria are intended to:

·  Ensure equipment compatibility with the telephone industry's standards

·  Simplify equipment planning and installation

·  Guard against service outages

·  Prevent interference to close proximity telecommunications equipment

·  Minimize the risk of fires

·  Ensure equipment operation under stressful environmental conditions

·  Protect personnel from injury

Telcordia has grouped NEBS criteria into three functional groups or levels, with Level Three being the most stringent. Anything less than Level Three compliance can restrict deployment in certain carrier environment applications. By meeting the Level Three requirements, GDC products can be deployed in all interior carrier environments.

The NEBS III compliance of GDC's SpectraComm products is a key requirement for our Carrier and Service Provider customers who currently use our CSU/DSUs, Modems and IP transport devices in their mission critical internal network infrastructures and central office applications for secure, remote network management, SS7 Signal Transport, Cell Site to CO access, and CPE provisioning.

An Added Advantage

The carrier-class SpectraComm Shelf also supports GDC's Universal Access System line-by-line xDSL products, enabling a full range of applications in one, unified, network-managed shelf.

From T3 to FT1/T1 and IP applications to legacy analog and digital communication to xDSL services, SpectraComm provides a Smart Solution for Service Providers, today!
