Management and Security

RADIUS Security

GDC's SpectraComm Manager (SCM), Dual V.34, V.34 4-port and single SpectraComm V.34 modems' management support RADIUS Security. The V.34 modems prompt the user for name and password and forward this information to the RADIUS server. The RADIUS server authenticates the user and returns a message to the modem to grant or deny access. Optionally, the RADIUS server may challenge the remote user and request additional information before granting access.

GDC's modems offer additional protection from "hackers" via GDC's patented SteadFast Security®. This exclusive system delivers multiple levels of security, providing additional or fail-safe protection if the RADIUS server is out of service.

SNMP-Based Management

TEAM Provides Multiple Views of the Network

GDC's Total Enterprise Access Manager (TEAM®) Series of SNMP-based management applications run on UNIX versions of Hewlett-Packard's HP OpenView network management software platform. The diagnostic workstation connects directly to the SCM by means of a serial Point-to-Point (PPP) dial-up or dedicated link, or through an Ethernet LAN connection. The SCM, in turn, interfaces the management applications to all managed SpectraComm elements. Since one SCM acts as an agent for 31 collocated elements and their associated remote network elements, the SpectraComm architecture conserves IP address assignments.

In this manner, the TEAM application can manage shelf-resident units, as well as compatible units located at remote sites. Whatever its location, each network-managed element is part of a network controlled by one SCM card and is accessed through its (single IP) address.

Communications between the application and the data sets occur in the form of SNMP requests and trap messages.

TEAM applications support both standard and GDC-developed enterprise MIBs. Since the TEAM application makes SNMP commands user transparent, there is no need for in-depth knowledge of these commands or MIB structures.
