Shelves and Enclosures SpectraComm High Density Shelf GDC's SpectraComm MS-2 high density shelves offer universal rackmounting for up to 16 network access support products. SpectraComm provides a new dimension of flexibility and control, made possible by its modular, bus-oriented backplane that transforms the basic rackmount shelf into an intelligent platform with integral network management capabilities. You gain a springboard to dial modem management, as well as application-independent packaging for any mixture of narrowband, wideband or broadband services.
High Density SpectraComm MS-2 Shelves offer cost-effective solutions for both service provider and enterprise environments. Per NEBS specifications, the high density model occupies only 7 inches (178 mm) of rack height and a shallow 12 inches (305 mm) of depth. Shelves can be flush or center-of-gravity mounted in either standard 19 or 23-inch cabinets. AC and DC powered versions, Telcordia NEBS compliance, and worldwide safety and EMI compliance add to SpectraComm's versatility. Flexible Interfaces With SpectraComm MS-2 Shelves, you can tailor network interfaces, transmission product types and speeds, and business equipment connections to fit your networking needs. The secret to this flexibility is an innovative, modular backplane design that divides functionality into three horizontal zones: a network interface zone, a management bus zone, and DTE zone. This architecture, along with front panel connectors, supports DSX-1, V.35, EIA-530, V.24, EIA/TIA-232, BNC and HSSI interfaces. This interface flexibility allows a mix of applications across a single shelf system. Multiple Power Supplies Provide Redundancy Each shelf can accept either one or two plug-in power supplies. One supply is sufficient to support a fully populated shelf. However, a second supply can be added for load sharing and to provide redundancy, especially for critical on-line applications.
SpectraComm 2000
The SpectraComm 2000 (SC 2000) offers a low-density, flexible foundation for integrating local and wide area data networks. Equipped with dual power supplies and a variety of plug-in cards, the SC 2000 serves as a versatile shelf system that supports many network services. The SpectraComm 2000 Shelf houses two SpectraComm cards in a compact, modular enclosure. The shelf enables cost-effective connectivity, providing the same interfaces found on the SpectraComm High Density Shelf. Packaging The SC 2000 is designed for the space limitations of Central Offices or remote/cell sites that require a one rack unit (1 RU) NEBS-compliant enclosure. A wide range of SpectraComm plug-in cards are available for the SC 2000 Shelf. The SC 2000 measures 19 inches (482.6 mm) wide X 1.75 inches (44.45 mm) high X 10.6 inches (269.2 mm) deep per NEBS specifications. Modules are hot-swappable, allowing service or hardware upgrades without interrupting system operation. The SpectraComm 2000 meets TIA/EIA-310E specifications for rackmount installation and is designed to accommodate wallmounting installation as well. The shelf can be mounted in 19, 23 or 26 inch cabinets using front mount installation, as well as in 19 or 23 inch cabinets using center-of-gravity mounting. The same hardware brackets allow for front, center and wall mount installations. An optional kit is available for 26 inch cabinets. Redundant Power Supplies The SC 2000 may be equipped with a single power supply or with two independent supplies. It supports both 24 VDC and -48 VDC input options that take advantage of the power sources available at cellular Base Station Controllers and cellular Base Station Transmission Systems, as well as at the central office. An external AC "all range" power supply is also available. During normal operation, twin power supplies perform load sharing. However, should one fail, the other supply will automatically power the entire shelf -- without loss of service — providing increased reliability. Similarly, replacement of the failed power supply can be performed without service interruption.
Remote Access 1000 The Remote Access 1000 (RA 1000) is a single card standalone enclosure for locations that require "Telco Tough" SpectraComm products in an industrial strength AC enclosure. The design of this enclosure is similar to the SpectraComm 2000 with the standard connectors and craft port on the rear panel. AC power is connected with an IEC 320 connector and power cord. Network Management The RA 1000 is designed for CPE locations that require the full range of management provided by TEAM and HPOV. In addition, the SpectraComm 800T3, 553 and 521A all use the craft port for local test and configuration. These SpectraComm products also provide in-band SNMP management through HP OpenView using in-band management from the central site SCM.
SpectraComm Multipak Enclosure The ten slot SpectraComm Multipak Enclosure is a high density package for CPE locations. This attractive enclosure accepts a wide range of SpectraComm low profile, seven-inch high cards for space-saving installations. The SpectraComm Multipak is constructed of durable, lightweight materials. It features a hinged, semi-transparent smoked plexiglass front that allows the status LEDs on the cards to be monitored and easy access to the enclosed SpectraComm devices. Since products plug directly into connectors on the system backplane, they can be quickly added, removed, or exchanged under system power with no impact on the other cards in the shelf, ensuring continuous network operation. The Multipak can be configured with a 100/120 VAC power supply module that plugs easily into any standard AC power outlet. The unit may also be ordered with a 220/240 VAC input. Both modules are removable for easy on-site replacement. Common Cards The SpectraComm family has been designed so that all of the cards fit into any of the enclosures. This allows users to maintain common spares for all of the standalone and rackmount units.
